Balto • Always in our hearts

Balto joined his friend Buddy at the Bridge two weeks ago.

“The house seems so empty with him, but we have such wonderful memories” Chris & Jean DiCarlo Wagner

This is Balto. He’s our permanent foster. We love him completely and so does everyone who meets him. He’s a clown, a ham, a toddler, a food hound, a lover, a companion. Balto is either 10 or 11,but he’s a puppy at heart. Balto has epilepsy. When he first come to us, he had been surrendered by his family of eight years. He had spent three weeks in a shelter, awaiting a decision on his fate. His people felt that he would be better off in another home. Our other Golden Rescue, Buddy, was then 12 years old and starting to fail. Balto come in and Buddy had a job and a friend. Balto was taught all the rules of the house by Buddy. They spent countless hours being old men together. Balto snuggled into Buddy the day we had the hospice vet over for the final visit. A bond of love and loyalty, Balto sensed Buddy’s death and stayed by him to the very end. Now, for the first time ever, Balto is an only fur-child. He’s adjusted to his new role and gets plenty of loving and gives plenty more back. We are thankful that the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue takes care of Balto’s medical bills, so that we can give him the best medical care which he deserves.
We are thankful to have permanent custody of him, so he is safe with us and secure in his future. We will love him to the end of time. We’re grateful for his silly huge head, paws and tail. We are grateful for his ever-present attention and gaze of trust and hope. You think you have room in your heart for a permanent foster? I hope you do. So you can have a Balto of your own to cherish.
