In Memoriam
There is an Indian legend which says, "When a human dies, there is a bridge they must cross to enter into heaven. At the head of that bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away."
William Findlay
June 10, 1925 -- September 19, 2008

William Findlay, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, was the father of one of our dedicated Board Directors, Lynette Findlay. His unexpected passing, along with his two beloved dogs, Panda and Laddie, has greatly saddened our Rescue members.
Bill was very proud of his daughter and the work she did in rescuing Goldens. Lynette shared the passion for dogs that her father did. He would often get upset and cry with Lynette when she told him some of the stories about the dogs she and others in the Rescue helped. On the day that Lynette’s father went missing, Kelly from Lynette’s office starting fostering a dog, Zoey, that had been turned into rescue because the owner had died. Zoey was placed within a week with an older gentleman that had just lost his golden. This is one of the many reasons Bill was proud Lynette worked with such dedicated volunteers for the dogs.
One of Bill’s concerns was who would take care of his dogs when he was gone. Lynette would tell him in her usual style, “Don’t worry... if you don’t stop feeding them people food and treats, they will pass before you.” Bill died with his dogs in his lap in the back seat of his car in the desert, instead of leaving the dogs in the car and walking for help...he knew his dogs would not make it. Her dad, known as "grandpa" to Lynette's goldens, had a special bond with Lynette’s golden, Hamish. Hamish was recently running thru “grandpa’s” home looking for him, but he was not there.
In honor of this wonderful father and dog lover, the family would be honored if a donation were made in his name to the rescue group, SCGR Rescue, that Lynette devotes so much love, energy, and resources to.
