Adopting a Rescue Golden
Thank you for your interest in adopting a Golden Retriever from Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue. SCGRRescue is grateful for people with hearts large enough to help a dog that needs a loving home. The information on this web page should answer many of your questions about our adoption process.
Please note that we only adopt to homes in the Southern California area.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you will need to complete an online application. Once your application is received and reviewed by our placement team, a volunteer will be in touch with you to schedule an in-home interview. We request a minimum $25 donation at the time of this visit.
We at Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue work very hard to find the right home for each rescue dog in our care. It is a process that can vary from a few days to several months depending on the circumstances.
We strive to find the best family match for each of our rescue dogs based on their individual needs, regardless of when the application process is completed. The more flexible you are about the kind of dog you are willing to adopt, the less time the process may take. It is not on a first-come-first-served basis, but rather which family is the best match for the dog. Each dog comes to us under unique circumstances with specific needs. In addition, each family also has individual circumstances which are taken into account when making a placement.
Like many rescue organizations, we offer the benefits of being able to provide dogs who are fully vetted and whose temperament is fairly well known, since most of them have lived with our foster families.
Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue is one of the few rescues to provide not just basic vetting such as vaccines and sterilizations, but also more costly treatment and procedures for those dogs in need. This may include, but is not limited to, MRI’s, ultrasounds, CT scans, treatment and extractions for severe dental disease, orthopedic procedures including hip and knee surgeries as well as treatment for emergency situations for incoming dogs. We go above and beyond to understand the health and behavior of our dogs prior to their adoptions.
Our adoption fees range between $500-$1500 for our domestic dogs and those from Mexico that incur minimal transportation costs. Dogs are assigned their adoption fee based on a number of factors such as age, breed, health and behavior, amongst others.
For our international dogs from overseas, adoption fees range $1,000-$2,500. International adoption fees are higher due to the travel and boarding costs, as well as the above mentioned factors for domestic dogs. These dogs stay in their country of origin for weeks, or sometimes months, prior to being able to travel.
NOTE: Ages for rescue dogs are the best estimate, based on the known history we have on each dog and veterinary consult. Pricing exceptions for individuals may occur based on SCGRR’s discretion.
Thank you for your interest in opening your home and heart to a Golden. We look forward to working with you.
SCGRR reserves the right to decline applicants who cannot meet the needs of our second chance Goldens.
