Adopting a Rescue Golden
Thank you for your interest in adopting a Golden Retriever from Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue.
SCGRRescue is grateful for people with hearts large enough to help a dog that needs a loving home. The information on this web page should answer many of your questions about our adoption process.
Please note that we only adopt to homes in the Southern California area.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you will need to complete an online application. Once your application is received and reviewed by our placement team, a volunteer will be in touch with you to schedule an in-home interview. We request a minimum $25 donation at the time of this visit.
We at Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue work very hard to find the right home for each rescue dog in our care. It is a process that can vary from a few days to several months depending on the circumstances.
We strive to find the best family match for each of our rescue dogs based on their individual needs, regardless of when the application process is completed. The more flexible you are about the kind of dog you are willing to adopt, the less time the process may take. It is not on a first-come-first-served basis, but rather which family is the best match for the dog. Each dog comes to us under unique circumstances with specific needs. In addition, each family also has individual circumstances which are taken into account when making a placement.
Like many rescue organizations, we offer the benefits of being able to provide dogs who are fully vetted and whose temperament is fairly well known, since most of them have lived with our foster families.
We have a lot more applicants than dogs, so not everyone who applies will be selected as a match for one of our dogs.
Our current adoption fees are as follows:
$600 for puppies 8 weeks to dogs up to 2 years of age
$500 for dogs 2 years to up to 7 years of age
$350 for dogs 7 years to up to 10 years of age
$300 for our super seniors, ages 10 years and older
International dogs will incur higher adoption fees due to the cost of transport:
$1500 per dog under 7 years of age
$800 for dogs 7 years of age or older, or dogs with known long-term medical needs.
Over the past two years, a significant increase in animal welfare costs has SCGRR re-evaluating our adoption fees. When our dogs are ready for their adoptive home, they have been completely vetted such as an exam, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipped with registration, treatments from minor ailments to major medical costs for diagnostics, surgeries, medications, as well as behavior evaluation and training for many of our problematic pups.
Effective August 1, 2021, adoption fees will be modified to the following:
$800 for puppies and dogs up to 4 years of age
$650 for dogs 4 years of age up to 8 years of age
$500 for dogs 8 years of age and older
$1500-$2500 for international dogs from South Korea, China, and Turkey, regardless of age. These rescue dogs incur higher adoption fees due to international boarding, medical and transport costs.
NOTE: Ages for rescue dogs are the best estimate, based on the known history we have on each dog and veterinary consult. Pricing exceptions for individuals may occur based on SCGRR’s discretion.
Thank you for your interest in opening your home and heart to a Golden. We look forward to working with you.
