Eilish was a true testament to what makes Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue so special. My sweet Eilish came into SCGRR February of 2020, when volunteer Barry Jacobs pulled her from shelter. I still have the video of her in the shelter, so thin, confused and scared. She was an older Golden Girl already (estimated 8-12), was thin, partially deaf, respiratory infection, needed teeth pulled, spaying, and an undiagnosed neurological condition that caused her to drag her hind paws. The shelter most likely would have euthanized her. She came to me as a foster on 2/22/2020, just a mere two weeks before the world would shut down due to Covid.

She settled in nicely and even with her weakness decided she was safe with myself and Gatsby and even scaled a baby gate to get to him in her weak condition. As we knocked down each of her medical check marks to prepare her for adoption, it became abundantly clear that she was where she belonged. Booties were made for her paws to prevent her from dragging nails and still allow her to walk with her own quirky gait. We had a stroller for longer walks, which mostly was brought “just in case” as she was a trooper. She did underwater therapy and PT at C.R.O.C, where massage was her favorite, most times falling asleep.

During her four years she blossomed! She loved and was loved by all that met her. She was notably seen on her walks with a furry companion in her mouth or a beloved tennis ball, never dropping them no matter how long the walk. Being deaf and mute her personality shined through her eyes and she found a way to communicate her silly, sweet demeanor. Whether it was stealing your spot on the couch, wiggling her way to a treat or belly rub she quickly inched her way into your heart.

We packed a lot of adventures into our 4 years together. Traveling to Palm Springs, Lake Arrowhead, Santa Fe, and Arizona.

She loved the Koi Pond at Fashion Island and was always so gentle with the fish and the children around the pond. In February of 2023 we lost Gatsby and she and I became bonded even more. She helped nurse me throughout the year as I battled a rare cancer.

Just a month before she passed we attended our first Goldiepalooza, dressed as the Golden Girls. She had just recovered from a first bout of pneumonia and was in good spirits again. She was a hit, people everywhere stopped to talk and take her picture and a few days later she wasInsta-Famous.

She was such a sweet, gentle soul who filled my home and heart with SO much joy and love. Even though she was only with me a short 4+ years, she will be in my heart and soul forever. On May 3rd, 2024 after a second bout of pneumonia that landed her at urgent care, I had to make the difficult decision to let her fly free to be with her brother Gatsby and her other fur siblings that would be waiting for her over the rainbow bridge. Thank you SCGRR for pulling her and entrusting her with me. She was a true blessing to me. Fly free my Sweetpea Eilish, until we meet again over the Rainbow Bridge.
