HELP NEGLECTED & ABUSED DOGS: HEAL THEIR HURT

December 9, 2023 - January 1, 2024
  • This event has passed.
Neglect and abuse doesn’t just cause physical harm. It often results in fear, anxiety, phobias and PTSD. SCGRR desperately needs YOUR help to keep pace with the skyrocketing number of Golden Retrievers that are suffering these fates. Help us heal their hurt.

We’ve always been there to rescue the abandoned and needy. Whether from abuse, neglect, lack of socialization, bad genetics, or having practiced poor choices for far too long, we’ve seen so many cases of extreme fear and anxiety in the breed we love so much. Most people see “bad dogs” but we only see the emotional fragility of these amazing animals. We’ve experienced first hand that it is possible to rehabilitate so many dogs that others don’t give the chance. We leverage behavior specialists and trainers with industry-leading certifications in modern, reward-based methods grounded in science. We also rely on patient foster families with a willingness to learn in order to help these dogs on their healing journeys. We’ve seen these dogs go from hiding in a corner or snarling on a catch pole or bouncing off walls during walks or guarding their food…. to finding their perfect family. They are resilient creatures and we want to invest in their success. But it truly takes a village and….an increasing budget!

How can you help?

Your donation will literally save a life by funding our behavior and training program. We’ve spent over $50,000 in 6 months to provide the training and boarding, to take on questionable cases and have had to limit new cases due to funding. As a 100% volunteer, foster-only rescue, we do not have a facility at the ready to house and work with challenging dogs. Nor do we have an on-staff trainer so we must contract with other professionals. DONATE NOW – We have a generous $10,000 matching donor if we reach $40,000 by January 1, 2024!

      • $40 provides a night in a clean, quiet boarding spot to decompress from the shelter or a box of Calming Care supplement.
      • $150-$200 provides an hour of professional time for a dog.
      • $500 provides additional medical tests to rule out underlying conditions on seemingly healthy dogs.
      • $1,000 provides a week in a professional’s home board and train environment.
      • $3,000 provides a month at a professional board and train to gain a solid foundation for tougher cases.

If you are interested in learning more about behavior modification and FOSTERING one of these special dogs, we need homes in the Southern California area that are willing to work with our behavior team to setup a successful environment and execute progressive training plans. Fill out a foster application HERE.

If you would like to continue this important work as a forever family for special needs dog, you will find our ADOPTION process and application HERE. Be sure to explain what kinds of environment you offer, your training skill set/philosophy and behavior challenges you are up for.

If you have a dog that misbehaves, invest in their success! DON’T GIVE UP on them as rehoming can often make matters even worse. Contact us for trainer recommendations in your area or check out CPDT and IAABC for referrals with CPDT-KA or CDBC credential.

In the days to come, we will share the stories of some of the emotionally damaged dogs that SCGRR has helped – please follow us on social media and/or click this GoFundMe link to be sure to not miss an update. Thank you in advance for your support so that we might continue helping more dogs just like them.

With gratitude,

SCGRR
