I am beyond excited to announce that Nellie has been adopted!
This special girl has been in our rescue since March 2023. When she first came in and was spayed, it was found that she had a hemangiosarcoma on her liver. It was removed, but the prognosis for this 3 year old girl was poor. It was estimated she had a few months. Several months later, to everyone’s surprise, Nellie’s condition had not deteriorated and she was still very much alive. We had her re-evaluated and found no further growths. At that time her spleen was removed to prevent any tumors from forming there. We then decided to put her up for adoption.
In January, we got an inquiry from Christie- she was writing on behalf of her dad, Martin. Martin is retired and recently lost his wife of 50+ years. They had had Goldens their whole life and he longed for a companion. Martin is a cancer survivor too and Christie said he would take her everywhere, including a large airport hanger where he stores his private planes and likes to hang out with other pilots! Christie and family were not deterred by Nellie’s health history or her quirks. She felt as is if Nellie would be a perfect fit for Martin and that they would both be able to provide each other with undivided attention, companionship and love.
At the “Meet and Greet” It was love at first sight! (See pic). Nellies’ sweet and gentle nature, golden beauty and petite size was a match for the energy they were seeking in a dog. We always say “it only takes one”. Martin is truly Nellie’s “one”. Christie and her family and her lab and golden are 10 minutes away and will be able to help Martin as needed. He has a huge yard and swimming pool should Nellie enjoy a dip on hot Central Valley day!
