Ballad (aka Sam) is not only super handsome but also an absolute sweetheart! He was surrendered by an older couple who were unaware of how big and strong he would become.
Sam made himself right at home when he arrived at his foster family’s house. At only 10 months old, he is full of puppy energy and LOVES to play! He is very high energy and is relentless with his toys whether it is 10 am, 10 pm, or 4 am – he is always ready to play. Ball Video The one thing he hasn’t quite figured out yet is that toys are around longer if you don’t destroy them…
Sam likes to come running, jump on your lap and smother you with slobbery kisses. He has no idea how big he is…and that he might not be the right size for a lapdog. He cries when he is separated from you, even for a few minutes in the backyard but eventually settles down and takes a snooze in the sun. Talking about snoozing, he loves to sleep on the sofa or on the bed – always as close to his humans as possible.
Sam enjoys walks, but he has not been properly leash trained when he was a young puppy. He will therefore need ongoing training and someone strong to walk him. Sam’s foster brother is a one year old golden and he did well walking with him. He is not easily distracted and doesn’t get too excited over other dogs or people.
Being a typical Golden pup, Sam is VERY food driven. He loves treats, and will jump up and try and take any food you may have out of your hand. He hasn’t gotten on the kitchen table or counter surfed, so that’s a huge plus! Sam is fully house trained and hasn’t had any accidents while he has been with his foster family. He knows a few basic commands (sit, stay, down), but will need more training. He is a quick learner and loves to please – and his treat obsession will make training easy. Sam drinks a ton of water every day, and tends to make a mess with his bowl. One of his favorite things is to put his stuffed toys in the water bowl before he plays with them. Expect lots of water – everywhere, every day.
My Ideal Home
Sam is definitely a velcro dog, and loves having his family home with him. Like most Goldens he would do best with someone who works from home, or is home most of the day. His foster family has a cat and he hasn’t shown much interest. We therefore assume he would be fine in a home with a cat. He craves attention and would thrive as the only dog, but would also do well with another playful dog. Although he loves kids, due to his size he might be best off placed with slightly older kids who will not get bowled over by him – he literally has no idea of his size! He hasn’t been pool tested but looking at his obsession with the water bowl he would probably love a home with a pool or live somewhere by the ocean.
