We are Ernie, a golden retriever, and Bert, a chihuahua mix, who are a bonded pair and MUST stay together as we love each other. Our previous owner was sent off to the hospital which left us headed to the shelter where we were rescued by SCGRR.
We are both sweet, loving and gentle-natured and love our humans very much. We like to hang out in the vicinity of our humans, but also do not mind being in the next room. We have acclimated well to our foster home as there are other dogs and cats which we can socialize or chill with as we wish.
We are supposed to be 10 years old, but possibly are a bit younger than 10 as we still have pep in our step and energy when needed.
Bert, the chihuahua mix, is low key and loving and a huge couch potato. (Typical of Chihuahua) Bert is happy to go outside in the backyard or go for walks, but is really happy indoors. Bert likes to sleep on the bed at night or the daybed at the end of the bed. Bert will give kisses to Ernie and his humans.
Ernie, the golden, is loving and gentle and loves to go in the backyard and run around or go for walks. Ernie likes to hold his leash in his mouth when he walks to help which is very cute! Click on Video The wanted to say hello to neighbors when we walked. He will do zoomies in the backyard to burn off some energy at times. Any time someone goes to the back door to go out, Ernie is there to go out in the backyard too. He does like to play with a ball or dog toy which can be taken from him when play time is over. Ernie has “played” with our 13 year old golden slightly, but not much has transpired. Ernie has been spritzed with the hose outside and does not seem to mind. Ernie would love to sleep on the bed at night if there is room, but he sleeps on the couch or dog bed at night and is very comfortable. Ernie is always very happy to see his buddy, Bert, as Ernie checks for him on occasion, and
they exchange kisses and tail wags.
Bert and Ernie love their breakfast and supper and eagerly eat their meals. We pick up their dog dishes when through so none of the dogs can get protective over their dishes. They are also curious when we prepare human meals and sit to eat, but then go lie down while we are dining. Bert and Ernie are house trained and go to the back door when they wish to go in the backyard. They both know how to sit which is as far as we have gotten. There has been no barking from either one of them. They both do well when they are left in the house with the rest of the menagerie when we have to attend to errands, etc. When we return to the house, they are all happy to see us, and we take a trip out to the backyard. Both have been a real delight to foster, they are just perfect if you want a buddy to throw the ball to and a cuddly small dog to sleep on your lap while watching TV. Best of both world!
