About Me

Estimated to be 3 years old, but the more we get to know him we think he is not younger than 3. Goose is a handsome neutered red mixed breed brought to the US from Mexico, weighing in around 35 lbs. When we were notified of him from our foster in Mexico, Goose had been on the streets for a while and had been mistreated and obviously abused. Sadly, while we don’t know the extent of the trauma Goose has endured, we do know that he has large burns from acid being thrown on his lower left side, now all healed up, but we are not sure if he will ever grow hair back in those area. He also as/had some of his teeth broken, as if someone hit him with a bat or something. And when we heard about it we just couldn’t leave him there like that, as he is the sweetest thing and a total lovebug. He likes to jump onto the bed or couch to cuddle with his humans. He will sit by your side and loves to lean on you. Surprisingly, he still trusts humans but understandably is a little fearful of crowds and people in groups. His foster dad says he is the most naturally athletic dog he’s ever been around and is a great soccer player. He can easily jump 3 to 4 feet, run 3 to 4 miles and is very coordinated and good at catching things but don’t expect him to give you the ball back!

Goose loves to play, but he will nap by his foster Mom while she is working in her office, until his Foster Dad comes home for lunch, then it’s game on!

Goose has spent time with a 3 month old Labrador puppy, and they love to wrestle and chase each other, sometimes their playing gets a little rough. Outside on his walks, which he loves, he will show fear when encountering other dogs, regardless of size, and will avoid getting near them at all costs. This could be still some behavior he learned while being on the streets in TJ and having to fend for himself. He does however take interest in the squirrels and birds on his walks and has attempted to climb trees to get a better look. We are not recommending a house with a cat.

Goose has been walking with his foster everyday and using a harness has made all the difference in the world. He is no longer pulling or chocking himself and has become a great walker. He now gets very excited when he sees the harness come out. He is not fond of water and will walk around sprinklers and water puddles.

Goose came into rescue very skinny and was very guarded with his food, but now he has learned that the food will be there everyday, has gained some much need weight and is now relaxed about his food. So the food issues at the beginning are now resolved, in fact the puppy who is also being fostered will walk over to check Goose’s bowl and he doesn’t mind. His foster has even been able to wrestle bones and other items from him with no aggression. He also has learned to stay off the furniture.

Despite his rough looking exterior, everyone who meets Goose falls in love with his sweet and gentle personality. He loves to play and bounce around, do zoomies, and throw his toys up in the air and chase them. He LOVES SOCCER as we have mentioned before. He is still showing us a new side of his personality as he becomes less and less fearful that he might go back to his previous horrible existence.

My Ideal Home

An ideal home for Goose would be a semi-active home where he will get plenty of love and an owner who will continue to show him that he is now safe from his previous existence. He needs and loves his daily exercise: runs, walks, hikes, etc. We feel Goose would be fine with a medium/mellow fur sibling or an only dog, in a home without cats and with middle school age children or older, preferably a home where someone is always around. Are you the right fit to help this beautiful pup learn how wonderful life can be and to uncover his true potential?
