Hi, my name is Grover (although I don’t really respond to this name)! I was named after my shelter mates “Ernie and Bert” were rescued a few days prior. I’m an easy going, silly boy who loves spending time with my humans. I’m about 6 years old and have the laid back temperament of a dog with some experience under his belt. I am not hyper inside the home, definitely not destructive (no shoes chewed for me), and respectful of food left on counters. I know how to sit and give my paw and my foster parents have been working on impulse control as well as the stay command with me.
I haven’t really had any doggie play dates yet because I have been recovering from Influenza for the past few weeks but I enjoy seeing other dogs on our walks and look forward to making friends soon!
I am fully house broken and have not had a single accident since I came to live with my foster parents! They do keep me on a very consistent potty schedule and I get opportunities to go to the bathroom 6 times a day, with two longer walks and 4 short potty breaks. I would really appreciate that my adoptive parents maintain a similar schedule for me to prevent any accidents from happening and so I don’t develop issues from having to hold it since I can only go to the bathroom outside.
Let’s talk about play time: I love soft plush toys although they don’t last very long as I tend to rip them open in a day or two. They’re just so fun to chew! My foster mom bought me a plush toy made from Kevlar fabric and that’s been lasting me pretty long! I also love tennis balls, kong toys with peanut butter stuffed inside, oh and TREATS!! I loooveeee treats of all kind (greenies, raw hides, training treats, you name it).
I’m an 80 lb big boy and tend to get overheated easily so you’ll see me laying on the cold floor most of the time even though I have access to a soft bed and a couch. I can be snuggly but if I get too hot and am panting hard, I’ll look for the floor. My foster mom says I have no problem having any part of my body being handled so I’m easy to brush and clean! I also love accepting kisses and rolling around on the floor being goofy with my foster parents. I do have a high prey drive and am wildly fascinated by squirrels on our walks, so not sure if I would be a great fit around other small critters, like cats for example.
Lastly, I can be a bit of a Velcro dog around the house but fortunately am fine to be left alone when my parents need to go to the gym or out to dinner. I don’t bark or whine or make any fuss when they leave.
My Ideal Home
I would love a family who can prioritize my needs, play with me, take me on lots of walks, give me all the pets, and generally just spend a lot of time with me. I’m really sweet and goofy and just want to receive all the love I can possibly get.
