About Me

Hi! My name is Hank, but my foster mom calls me Hanky. I am an easygoing, friendly, mellow 5-year-old boy looking for my new home.

I love being with my people and will follow you anywhere you go. I get along well with everyone and love to give kisses to people I love most on the face whenever I get a chance. I love to snuggle, lay next to you on the floor, be a lap dog when you let me, and spend time with you.

I like to play with stuffed animals. I don’t normally destroy them, but I occasionally like to rip a stuffy up! I like to play with you and my stuffy sometimes too and will bring you my stuffy to throw for me to fetch. I also like to chase my doggie roommate around the house and play with her.

I like treats, especially the training treats my foster mom gives me when I am being a good boy and following directions. I also love my green dental sticks! I’m fully potty trained and have had no accidents at my foster moms house. I don’t love to use the restroom on my walks, but I will go if you let me into the backyard! I like to be outside on walks, but I am not fully leash trained. I walk best on a harness and love to smell absolutely everything on my walk. When it’s time to come in, I can be very stubborn. I plant myself on the ground and will refuse to come in…even if you have treats for me. I sometimes need to be picked up and carried in after a walk.

I get along well with other dogs (both big and small), but tend to be nervous at first. I stand between my foster moms legs until I feel ready to say hi. Once I say hi, I am easygoing and coexist nicely with other dogs. I like to be introduced outside when meeting other dogs so I have time to smell them and see what they’re like.

I like being in the car, but need to be picked up to get in. Once I’m in the car, I like to look out the window and lay down in the back seat. My foster mom takes me all over the place and when we get to new places I like to look around before I lay down and relax.

I will sleep in bed with you if you want me to, but I’m also happy to sleep right next to you on the floor. I’m a little afraid of the dark, so a nightlight will help me feel more comfortable when I’m going to bed.

I will become very attached to you and want to be with you everywhere you go. It is hard for me to be away from you and it makes me nervous when you leave me. I make it hard to leave the house because I try to escape while you’re leaving, so I’ll need some training to help me with this. My foster mom uses a dog gate to keep me away from the front door. If you leave me at home during the day, I just lay patiently waiting for you. I don’t love being left behind and even though I try to follow you out the door, I am okay when you leave. At my foster mom’s house there is another dog I am friends with and we like to be together while we wait for our moms to come home. When people come home, I greet them with a sniff and an excited jump to try to give a kiss. If you tell me to get down, I will, and I’ll follow you around until you have a chance to pet me and say hi.

I am a mellow, snuggly, easy going Golden. I am just looking for lots of love and a nice new family.

My Ideal Home

I would do best in a home in a quiet neighborhood. I am sensitive to noises and would prefer to be somewhere quiet. I will alert you when someone is walking by the house or when I hear someone at the door. Most of my barking happens when I see strangers walking by the house or am startled. When I cannot see people walking by or am not startled by noises, I do not bark at all. I am good with kids and other dogs, and would like to be in a home with another dog. I love having a companion to spend time with when my humans leave. I’ve never met a cat, but I think I would do well with a cat too. My new home should have a backyard for me to spend time in. I like to lay outside and run around when I can. I would also like to have a family that is home often for me to spend time with. I like being around people and want to see you as much as I can! I will need a patient family who is willing to train me. I know some basic commands, but do not always respond to them. This will take time and practice, but I am a smart boy and I know I will be trained in no time!
