Harlie is a ten and a half year old honorary Golden who came to us when her mom decided that Harlie deserved more attention than she was able to give her due to her travel schedule and caring for an ill parent out of state. Harlie has been a lovely compact-sized house guest ever since, always with a smile on her face.
She is completely house trained, well-mannered, and is not destructive at all around the house. She is smart, fun, eager to learn and is an ideal and adorable mix of Velcro and independent dog.
Harlie is a friendly girl who loves to go for walks, and actually has a few pounds to shed to improve her overall health, so several shorter walks a day take care of her bathroom needs and seem to be her thing! She is an easy and energetic walker and go for 30 – 45 minutes before tiring out. Check out her video!
Her legs are short and she is rather stout, and she stumbled on a couple of front steps recently, so her ideal home would not have a lot of steps or stairs to climb. She loves to go for rides and may also need some help getting into the car. Her foster mother is trying to teach her to first jump onto the floor of the backseat, then onto the seat, which seems to work.
Harlie is happy to meet dogs on walks, but she barked (not aggressively, but annoyingly) at other dogs while sitting at the local Starbucks. (That may get better with time.) She does prefer her humans, so she is not really a “dog park dog.” She is happy to curl up on the sofa next to her humans while they watch tv or read and she is perfectly content. She will also happily be by herself for some “alone time” in another room while her foster family members are busy doing something else.
My Ideal Home
Harlie loves her toys, especially her stuffies, and sometimes tries to engage her foster family in a game of fetch… well, in Harlie’s version of that! She even occasionally gets the Zoomies… which is incredibly cute to see. At first Harlie did not like when her leash was put on… and she would snap a little at that time. She has since learned that the leash means a walk, a ride, or some other fun thing, so she is better at that now.
Harlie is the perfect, compact, low-maintenance, and fun companion.
