About Me
This beautiful lady is Helen. Besides having the most incredible ears and beautiful golden eyes, this stunning mixed-breed dog is super smart. Her foster says “She is a very intelligent and affectionate pup, and (the foster is) absolutely in love with her.” Helen is a really fun companion, and she enjoys playing ball, snuggling, and working on her training exercises. She learns so quickly and is an excellent obedience training student. At three years old, Helen is the perfect age- still very playful and adventurous, yet is a wonderful houseguest and is fully housebroken. She can be trusted home alone without incident, but we suspect she would prefer to have her human companion around as much as possible because she loves affection. She is fantastic in the car and walks beautifully on an easy-walk harness. She is crate trained, but she also adores snuggling with her humans in bed at night. This girl bonds hard to her human companions and is looking for a quiet home where she can snuggle and play with her people as much as possible. Click on Video
Helen came into the rescue as a very anxious dog likely due to a lack of proper puppy socialization (sadly, a common scenario for pandemic puppies). Helen has worked diligently with a team of animal behavior modification specialists to help control her anxiety. She has come a very long way, but there will likely always be an underlying anxious component to her personality. Helen is still working on feeling confident on walks, so her adopter will need to continue her progression by helping her gain confidence and behave appropriately when encountering strange dogs. She is eager to continue this training as she loves to go on neighborhood adventures. Helen is currently on daily medications and a fixed schedule that helps ensure her anxiety is under control. When she is feeling confident with the people she trusts, there is no sign of any issue, but fearful situations with unknown people can be intimidating for poor Helen. It is our hope that we can find a perfect match for Helen where she can feel safe and loved and where her anxious times are dealt with in a positive manner to help her become the very best version of her wonderful self. We promise you that she is an absolute doll when she is feeling comfortable in her space.
My Ideal Home
Helen is a special dog who deserves a safe and loving forever home. Her ideal home would provide a calm, predictable environment with an adopter that will plan to continue her positive reinforcement behavioral training (the rescue can connect you with recommended trainers). Although Helen seems to like children, we feel she would do best in an adult-only home where daily life is predictable and stress is minimal. A peaceful backyard is essential for Helen, so that she can do all of her exercising in the privacy of her own home while she acclimates to her new surroundings. She is good with other well-balanced dogs and would enjoy a canine sibling to play with. She is a strong, young dog who enjoys wrestling, so her dog friends will need to appreciate this rough style of play as well. She would likely do well as an only dog in the home too as long as her humans are up for many games of fetch as she is happiest when she is active. We do not know how she would react to cats, so a kitty home is probably not the best fit. Although Helen has some challenges (don’t we all?!?), this girl is an absolute doll, and she is going to make an amazing companion for the right person.
