About Me

Hi! My name is Liko, and I am a very special dog with very special story to tell.

At about one year of age I was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts, my mom did her best and had me checked by a veterinarian, and without corrective eye surgery, I would go blind. My mom didn’t feel that she could manage my situation well, so she did the best thing she could do for me at the time and relinquished me to SCGRR hoping that I would be able to get the eye surgery to restore my vision. So I was seen by an eye specialist, and it was also noted that I had a detached retina, that did nothing to phase this special ophthalmologist, and I had eye surgery on April 13, 2022. My post operative period was extensive with eye medications, but now I am down to just twice daily, and I don’t mind because….I can SEE!!! I can see the birds in the sky, and I can see the lizards, and flowers and the leaves blowing in the wind, I have a new life, and I am so very grateful. It is easier to run, and I don’t bump into cars anymore and I absolutely love playing in the water and chasing the water from the hose. This is a whole new world for me and I am ready to share it with someone special!

So I made up a little song with my name so you’ll never forget it. ”L” is for Lucky, because besides being special I am so very lucky, “I” is for intelligent, I know I am so very smart, I learn things fast and I try my best all the time, “K” is for Kute, (cute, another word for beautiful) I am just the right size, I have a pretty shiny coat, a gorgeous smile, and beautiful brown eyes! “O” stands for OMG, Why look any further?

I am potty trained, and will sit by the door when I need to go to the bathroom. I have a very sweet temperament and love to be pet, cuddled, and will lay on your feet when we watch TV together or while you are working on the computer. I have been crate trained but have not been using it much lately. I do love my toys and bones with marrow inside. I know how to sit, lay down, sit pretty, and shake. I know how to stay too, but sometimes I get too excited to stay when asked. I have a loud bark, when a new person comes to the door, but it is an act! The minute you walk in the door and pet me, I am quiet. I sleep inside on my bed all night and don’t wake up too early. I like to go on walks, and hikes and my leash manners are improving.

My foster mom says that I have been the perfect house guest. I have enjoyed having a fur sibling to play with and teach me some of the household rules, and it has been nice to have a resident playmate. I can entertain myself though and I was an only dog in my first home, and I am kid tested. I can be left for periods of time at home without any concern. I have been going on walks several times per day with my mom and fur brother, I am excited to meet new dogs, and people but I am relaxing into the process of meet and greet, I am still a puppy though and will need continued reinforcement in this area.

My Ideal Home

I am a super friendly, and lovable guy. I would love for my new home to have a yard so I can run and play. I loved playing with the kids in my former home and love to play with my canine foster brother, so really I can fit in most anywhere and be happy. I love being active and would enjoy hiking and playing at the beach. I ride well in the car so let’s go exploring! Most importantly, my new family would need to continue with my daily eye drops, and follow up care with an ophthalmologist. Come make me a part of your family and see why everyone who meets me knows I am special!
