About Me

This is Maylee! He is a 5 year old pure bred Golden who came to us when a college student returned to school and the family decided Maylee needed more attention than they could give him. He is housebroken and uses a doggie door to go out. He sleeps in a crate and his foster has learned that despite Maylee living most of his life outdoors and/or in a crate, he is a wonderful house guest and has proven himself to be a great dog!

Maylee has high energy and loves to play with squeaky toys and balls. He likes to destroy his plush toys and getting all the stuffing out. This is the only sign of destruction, which is normal dog behavior. He doesn’t touch or destroy any other items in the house.

He and his foster brother, a 55lb. Goldendoodle, are getting along great and are having loads of fun getting their energy out with some fun, rough play. Maylee happily engages when the Doodle initiates play. He loves to play fetch in the backyard as well and loves his walks and/or jogs in the neighborhood. After playing, Maylee enjoys chilling out and hanging out in his crate. A canine companion would be great for Maylee as he seems to really enjoy having a buddy around. He is more play and toy driven than food driven.

True to his breed, Maylee loves human touch. He loves to put his head on your arm to receive pets. He also follows his human fosters around and has become quite the Velcro houseguest. He is loving all the human attention he is now getting. It’s amazing when you see what a little affection can do!

Maylee is new to using a leash. That being said, he doesn’t pull much. He has been using an easy walk harness. He keeps his head down and is curious and sniffs a lot; however, he doesn’t react to other dogs while out on a walk. He is fearful of loud noises though. It is unknown how he would react to a cat, but he doesn’t bark much or respond to squirrels.

A funny quirk about Maylee is that he loves watching TV! He especially loves to watch animals on TV. So a TV is a much for him – ha ha!

His previous owners reported that he enjoyed swimming. He hasn’t gone swimming while in his foster home, but he seems to be comfortable getting wet with a hose.

Although he hasn’t been around children with his fosters, he is gentle and really loves human touch. Due to his size, energy level, and ability to play rough, it would be good to have dog savvy kids only. He jumped a lot when he first arrived at his foster home. But we believe that was just his nervous anxiety about his new surroundings. He no longer jumps. He will need a lot of reassurance from his new forever family until he can decompress and learn that he will be part of your forever family.

My Ideal Home

Maylee’s ideal home will be with someone who will love him unconditionally and give him all the pets and play he deserves. Having lived most of his life alone and outside, he deserves and is loving being an indoor dog now. He has turned out to be such a great companion and has quickly adapted to a life full of love and attention. If you let him love you and be near you, you will be one lucky person and/or family to have Maylee as part of your life. He is an angel!
