Meara is an 18 pound mixed breed full of love, affection, and happiness. She loves being in a yard romping through bushes, zooming across the grass, and exploring. She is housebroken (only a couple accidents in the beginning, probably due to nerves), but needs work on the rest of her household manners. She is small and agile and thinks every part of the house is up for exploration, high and low. She is getting better at learning “off” and also “down”, as she tends to greet her loved ones with jumps and bounces.
At roughly 1 year old Meara still acts like a puppy and can get into mischief, but she’s not destructive. Mostly she just collects treasures, which is a funny trait. If you leave any article of clothing out she will steal it and take it to her bed for safe keeping (even shoes sometimes!). She loves bones and stuffed toys too.
Meara also loves going for walks. She’s easy enough on a leash that her 6 year old human foster sister can walk her without problems. She’s friendly with strangers but has a bit of anxiety in large crowds. No food aggression, but she thinks all treats are for her and is working on patiently waiting for her turn.
Meara loves being with her foster humans and her canine foster brother. She does not like being left alone. She’s happy to be in a crate so long as her foster brother is with her, either during the day when everyone is gone, or at night for sleeping. She likes to know where everyone is in the house and likes to roam freely between rooms checking on everyone. In the evening she really enjoys snuggling on the couch with her foster parents and brother. She is a sweet, gentle girl who is ready to give her forever family lots of kisses and love.
My Ideal Home
Meara would do best in a home with another dog she can play with, bond to, and who can show her the ropes of acceptable behaviors. Her adoptive family will need to continue to work with her on basic household manners, but she is very smart and responds well with treats. Meara is considered medium energy so she would love a backyard she can run around in and get all her zoomies out, but she would also do well with a few walks a day and a canine sibling to play with. She is great with children, but has not yet been introduced to cats. Meara wants lots of attention, but she is easy to love and will make someone very happy!
