About Me

Memphis is a 2-year-old Golden/Great Pyrenees mix with low to medium energy. He is a sweet and playful dog who enjoys lounging in the sun and going for walks. Memphis is careful and gentle when playing with smaller dogs and shows no aggression or resource guarding. He is passive and goes with the flow, easily obeying commands to lay down or go for a walk. While not clingy, he enjoys being around humans and is eager to please.

Memphis is comfortable relaxing on the porch, in another room or in the same room while his humans are working from home. He will come up a few times a day looking for pets, treats or a potty break. He seems like a loyal dog. He’s eager to please and enjoys the treat games we play when working on basic commands. Because of his size I’ve been waiting to pet him until he sits, he’s now getting in the habit of sitting or lying down to get pets. He’s not much of a morning person and will get up to potty but typically lays back down.

He’s shown little interest in the cats, however, ours tend to stay out of sight. When they have come around he’s been disinterested but I would still recommend proper introductions with any new cats so he understands that he cannot play with them. Memphis enjoys playing with our dog and would likely get along with most dogs.Yes, he’s careful with her when they play and typically takes his cues from her as to what’s ok and not ok.I wouldn’t consider Buddy alpha but he’s not necessarily shy either.

Memphis loves stuffed animals and ropes for tug of war, and can be redirected with treats if he becomes distracted. He is fairly passive and tends to just go with the flow. If we ask him to lay down, he will. If we mention a walk, he’s up for it. If our dog wants to play, but he doesn’t, he’ll just lay there and wait for her to find something else to do. He doesn’t enjoy getting brushed, but it could just be because of his shave. He had to be shaved because when he first came into rescue he had knots and foxtail embedded in his fur.

He is house trained, walks easily on a leash, and eats all of his food each day. He does not beg or counter surf, but may sniff the counter due to his height. He takes food gently from hands and does well in cars. He sleeps well in a crate and knows basic commands like sit, down, and wait.

Memphis barks rarely and would benefit from some training as it pertains to jumping. He’s getting better, but if he’s in one of his playful moments he can get over excited and jump. Given his size, he could hurt someone if they’re not prepared. He’s only done this with us and has not tried to jump on anyone outside of the house. He enjoys being outside and settles quickly when left alone. While he may have initially looked for escape opportunities in a new home, he has since stopped.

Overall, Memphis is a sweet, lovable big baby and would love to be a part of your family where he will get plenty of playtime, love and adventures.

My Ideal Home

He could be a ‘runner’ the first few days in his new home. In the beginning he definitely looked for opportunities to get away, but after he settled, he stopped searching for an escape. He would do well in a semi-active home with older kids (due to his jumping). He loves his walks and likes to romp in the backyard a couple times a day but he enjoys lounging and napping. He would probably fit in to a broad range of homes. He’s not skittish; loud noises don’t seem to bother him and he hasn’t made a sound when someone has come to the door. I do think he would need a fenced yard given how much he enjoys being outside. His Foster Mom is home most of the time, but he’s pretty independent and thinks he would do fine alone for periods of time.
