About Me

Otis is a super sweet and gentle-natured purebred Golden boy. Being a typical Golden, he is very loyal, loves his humans (both old and young) and follows them everywhere. (Otis playing keep away video) Otis came to us because he and the other dog he had lived with for four years got in an argument (that is where his shaved forehead originates comes from). Other than that incident, Otis seems fine with other dogs – he ignores them on walks and had fun playing with a Golden visitor at his foster’s home. They roamed around the backyard and experimented with the pool a bit – although he doesn’t seem to be an avid swimmer. ( Swimming video)

Otis is pretty relaxed and more of a couch potato (which could also come from the excess weight he is currently carrying around). He is easy to walk and doesn’t pull on the leash – unless he sees wildlife like rabbits or deer (well, his ancestors were hunters after all…who can blame him). He likes walks until he decides it’s far enough and he wants to go home. This currently happens after about 1/2 mile. We do, however, assume that he will enjoy walks so much more once he slimmed down. At 110lbs he is currently overweight and will need to lose about 30lbs.

Otis is a very good house guest – he is house-broken, does not beg for food, does not counter-surf and takes treats gently from your hands. He knows the basic commands and rides well in the car – he pretty much just settles down and relaxes. He wants to make sure he alerts his family of potential danger, and you will hear him bark at critters or the neighborhood dogs.

My Ideal Home

Don’t be blinded by his summer hair cut and the shaved face (see picture pre haircut). Otis is a beautiful dog that will make a great addition to any family. We are looking for a home in which he can be the only dog and get all the human attention he craves for. As most Goldens, he would ideally like to have someone at home most of the time. His foster family started putting him on a healthy and balanced diet with lots of exercise. We want to ensure that Otis lives a healthy, happy and especially long life. We are therefore looking for someone who will keep him on a diet (-30lbs is the goal) and exercise this sweet boy.
