Pumbaa is a very special boy who has transformed during his time with SCGRRescue. Originally found as a stray and suffering quite a bit from fear and anxiety in a variety of situations, you wouldn’t know it to see him now. He still uses his crate as a safe space to get plenty of naps but with that tool in hand, he is a happy boy. He will do best in an adults-only home that is willing to continue to build his confidence during new experiences. We consider him a medium-energy pup.
Pumbaa LOVES to cuddle with you wherever you are. He will throw himself on you when you were watching TV on the couch and start snoring. Want a bathroom buddy? Pumbaa will put his head on your lap when you are in there to be “part of the action”. He is a true Velcro pup.
At the same time, Pumbaa is fine to stay home alone when you are out running errands. He is comfortable with, and loves, his crate. It is like a safe place for him and should be kept at his future home. Pumbaa is house-trained but used to have accidents when afraid of new people so positive introductions are important for Pumbaa.
Pumbaa enjoys going out and behaves well on leash and car rides. He even did well on a quiet hotel overnight with an outside dining experience recently. He passes by people nicely. He does show interest when he sees dogs and did well in play groups at the training facility he attended. He would do well with another balanced dog or as a single dog. No cats.
Pumbaa practices good eating manners at every meal. He can wait for you to prepare the food until you say ok to eat. His idea of play is chewing up his toy – no interest in tug or fetch. He hasn’t shown any guarding but it’s always recommended to trade to get stuff from a dog instead of forcibly taking things.
Pumbaa does sometimes show interest in stuff on the counter and trashcan but hasn’t had the opportunity for form bad habits. Continuing to practice good prevention with separating the kitchen temptations, keeping counters clear and garbage cans tucked away are important to setting Pumbaa up for success.
Pumbaa is a smart boy and loves to please you. He can’t wait to find the perfect home.
My Ideal Home
Pumbaa requires an adults-only home that is on the quieter side. A yard or some outdoor space to take in the smells would be a plus. He would do well with another balanced dog companion or as your one and only. His humans should have a willingness to use a crate for downtime, provide him a predictable schedule at first and work to slowly, and positively, expand his horizons. He is currently being fostered in Chino.
