About Me

Lovingly sponsored by Anne and Tracey Coates, in loving memory of Happy

Hi, my name is Samsik, and I come all the way from S. Korea. I have been with my foster family since April & they say I am a very sweet boy. I used to be afraid of the BIG TALKING BOX (TV) & I barked at it but got used to snuggling with my family on the couch after dinner watching TV. I also was very bothered by a Miniature Schnauzer statue on the mantle for a few days but he just stays up there & never barks back, so I don’t bark at him anymore. ( I do, however sometimes keep an eye on him when I walk by.) I love my older brother a LOT, but sometimes I have to nudge him out of the way if Mom is giving him too much attention. I think I might like to be an ONLY dog in my forever home.

I tend to be a fast eater, so mom got me a slow feeder bowl, but it doesn’t stop me much. I am sooo hungry so I used to try to get some of my brother’s food, but now we are fed in different rooms. I also used to try to grab things off the counter but I am getting better. I have a HUGE tongue, so I am kind of a messy drinker & water is all over the place after I drink. (mom keeps a towel handy to mop it up.) I like ice cubes a lot. I am good at fetching balls ( I am pretty good at fetch” & everyone is amazed that I understand English commands, although I am not too good at “Stay” yet. I am mostly house trained; I had 2 pee accidents when I escaped to some carpeted rooms I had not been allowed into.)

I am a really fluffy guy, so I shed a LOT, even though my family here brushes me. I also let them brush my teeth & pick burrs out of my feet, although I don’t like the latter especially. I like to steal socks but have not eaten any & give them back easily. I am good at sharing toys with my brother. If I am left outside & I want back in, like NOW, sometimes I bark & whine & jump at the door; mom doesn’t like that & scolds me & makes me stay out a little longer. (We generally do not leave dogs out for any length of time, unless we are trying to get them to do their business.)

I walk well on a leash & usually don’t pull, unless I see a squirrel or lizard that I need to catch. I love watching birds too. I am very friendly with other dogs & humans, including little ones (children). I am good in the car too although when we went up the coast recently on a long trip I got cars I got carsick a couple of times, but maybe cause it was really close to breakfast? I go to sleep in the laundry room here on my own bed & respond to “ Go to bed”. I get really excited when my people get up in the am or come home & greet them with whines & barks. I respond to “Samshik” (light on k, Korean pronunciation per my Korean friends), “Sammy,”” Samshigee “ ( also a Korean term like Tommy instead of Tom).

My Ideal Home

Samsik would fit in well in any number of homes, as either an only dog or with another confident pup who doesn’t mind sharing his human (s). He would definitely prefer his peeps to be around most, if not all of the time (what dog doesn’t?) and while he has not been left alone much he has been okay for short periods in the company of his older fur brother. He is very sweet with children so no concerns with placing him even with the very little ones. He has not met a cat while with us, thus we do not know how he would fare with felines, although we feel that with proper introductions and a dog savvy cat he would likely do ok.
