Scrappy is a very affectionate dog who is 2 years old and came from the streets of Mexico. He is just beginning to learn what living in a home in America is like. He is very loving and affectionate and bonds quickly with caregivers.
Scrappy will jump up and say hi to get pets. He also loves to rub his body up against yours to get your attention and remind you he needs more pets! He’s very active and when you’re not throwing the toy for him, he’ll do it himself! He’s very smart and has picked up some training like sit and stay. He has a hard time on the leash but he’s working on it! He’s a BIG food hound and is very food motivated – which is helpful when it comes to training. Coming from Mexico food is a high valued resource, so feeding alone and separated away from people and other pets is necessary so he can enjoy safely and threat free.
He’s very loyal to his people and attaches quickly and hard. He loves to follow his people around and will sometimes snuggle up for bedtime, but mostly sleeps in his bed. He’s nervous with strangers and needs time to warm up to them. Even after he’s been with them a bit, he can still find their movements startling, so best to keep interactions with others minimal until he feels more comfortable. He’s house-trained and has had minimal accidents. When he’s seen dogs on walks, he’s never shown signs of aggression. He simply says hi or keeps walking. He has been in play groups with other dogs and would do well with a mature, well mannered canine that presents a calm energy and could help show him the ropes of what family life can be.
My Ideal Home
His ideal home would be a quiet, calm home with primarily adults where he can provide the energy. He has lived with children (3 and 5), however would do best in a home without small children and lots of comings and goings. He’d love his new family to take him on long walks and play fetch with him in between. He loves having someone home with him, but does well for short bits by himself in the crate chewing his bone.
