About Me

Hi, I’m Tulip but they call me Bunny. I’m looking for a calm and quiet environment with one or two adult humans where I can spend my days relaxing with a yard at my disposal. Not into walks? That is just fine by me – I’m actually more happy sniffing around the yard and then taking a nap in the sun. I’m a perfect combination of giving my humans lots of love but also independent – I’m not one of those Velcro gals. So if you work from home or like to putter in the yard, I will let you get your work done and provide cuddles in between. Maybe I shouldn’t brag about myself, but my house manners are really good! I don’t get into your things or grab food off the counters. I am house trained and love sleeping on my own bed next to yours. I will wait patiently while you fix my meals too.

I’ve been told I’m “quirky”, so I’m looking for someone who loves that kind of thing! One of the things is my ‘talking’. When I get excited I do this ‘woowoowoo’ singing thing, and sometimes if something scares me, I may let out a little noise that sounds like a scream to communicate how I’m feeling. Don’t worry, the vets have checked me out and I’m fine…I just wear my emotions on my sleeve. My tail is also a little quirky – it has all the feathering of a Golden, but it’s short and cute instead of long. Thus…my nick name “Bunny”.

Here’s the thing to know about me. Originally found on the streets, I came into rescue very scared of people. Since my arrival, I’ve been working with some trainers to learn to be more comfortable meeting new people and with things that stress me out. I’ve made huge strides but I’ve decided I am not a party dog and I’m more of a homebody. I would rather hang out at home with one or two of my favorite people. My people will need to be patient. They will need to be willing to give me the space and time I need to get comfortable in my new home and family. But once I trust you, I will make you laugh, smile and fill your heart with joy with my antics. I’m NOT an ideal camping, hiking, long walk or dog park buddy as the big world makes me a bit anxious.

I should also mention that SCGRR did a DNA test on me and it came back that I have a good amount of Great Pyrenees in me. If you know anything about that breed, you will know that we can be a bit independent. I think I’m a good combination of both cuddly and independent… sometimes I love attention, but I am also happy to be on my own for a nap or just lounging in the backyard watching the world go by. Because of my breed, I really like being the only dog in the home. No cats would be best too. When I must meet anyone new, my humans will need to help me continue to work through that.

My Ideal Home

Tulip will need a quiet, adult only home – no kids. Someone (or two) who will give her the time and space she needs to warm up and trust. Tulip does feel more comfortable around women, but with time (and treats) can learn to warm up to patient men too. A backyard is a must for Tulip since she doesn’t really enjoy being out in the world for walks. She is a homebody and really needs someone who doesn’t have a lot of traffic going in and out, but just a calm atmosphere where she can relax with her new mom or dad. No dogs, no cats. Her humans should have a willingness to provide her a predictable schedule at first, and work slowly, and positively to expand her horizons. Tulip is currently in Mira Loma.
