Meet Porter, a resilient and courageous approximately 5-year-old boy who has endured more than any furry friend should ever have to. Porter’s journey to his permanent foster home was a difficult one, but he has found a loving family who cherishes him for the incredible soul he is.

Porter’s story started when he was brought into the shelter with multiple wounds, including a heartbreaking discovery that he had been shot multiple times by a BB gun. The injuries were severe, and he was in excruciating pain. Thankfully, SCGRR (Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue) was contacted just in time to save him from the euthanasia list.

Upon further examination, X-rays revealed the extent of Porter’s injuries. He had multiple pellets and BBs lodged in various parts of his body, causing immense discomfort. His right pelvic limb suffered from frank lameness, and he had small puncture-like wounds in the ischial and shoulder regions. Additionally, a cardiac arrhythmia was discovered, adding to the complexity of his condition.

Thanks to the skilled surgeons and dedicated caregivers, Porter underwent surgery to remove shrapnel from the L6 ivd space. The procedure stabilized him and allowed him to walk more comfortably. However, the traumatic injuries had left him with some challenges, as he experienced fecal and urinary incontinence.

Despite his difficult past and ongoing struggles, Porter has found a place where he can thrive and be loved unconditionally. His permanent foster home is filled with warmth and affection, providing him with the care and understanding he needs. Porter’s foster family embraces him for who he is, cherishing every moment they share together.

Porter’s journey to recovery has been remarkable, and he now enjoys a life that is somewhat normal, thanks to the love and support of his dedicated foster family. While he may always experience incontinence, it doesn’t diminish the joy and happiness he brings to his home.
